In this short passage from the book of Exodus we are given a story which took on layers and layers of meaning for the people of Israel and the early church. The people, crying out in thirst, are heard by God who instructs Moses to strike a rock and water flows from it. It's an easy connection with the story of the woman at the well in John's Gospel, in our lectionary today. Join our group as they explore deserts and living water. |

Did you know that this is not the only time that Moses strikes a rock to get water? Again in Numbers 20:1-13, the Israelites are grumbling again in the wilderness, complaining that they don't have enough to drink, and God provides water from a rock. Looks like the Israelites took a while to trust that God would provide for them along the way...
