Book of James
James is one of the 21 epistles of the New Testament, written by"James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ" who is writing to "the twelve tribes scattered abroad". The epistle is traditionally attributed to James the brother of Jesus (James the Just), and the audience is generally considered to be Jewish Christians, who were dispersed outside Israel.Framing his letter within an overall theme of patient perseverance during trials and temptations, James writes in order to encourage his readers to live consistently with what they have learned in Christ. He wants his readers to mature in their faith in Christ by living what they say they believe.

Activity Idea (Older Children)
What you need:
Lots of treats A couch or nice chair What you do: Pull one or two names out of a hat to be the fortunate ones. Let the fortunate ones sit on the couch with all the treats. Everyone else (the unfortunate ones) must sit on the floor on the other side of the room with no treats. The fortunate ones may throw treats to the unfortunate ones if they wish. Let the scenario play out for a while. Don't be tempted to intervene and make things 'fair'. Discuss: Talk about their feelings. Let them vent about the unfairness and how it felt. Talk about the bible passage, and talk about the real world problem of poverty. |
