Book of Judges
"After the death of Joshua, the people of Israel begin a downward spiral. Israel begins to adopt the corrupt practices of the Canaanites they failed to drive out of the land. This leads to a cycle of sin, oppression, repentance, deliverance, and peace, which eventually leads back to sin." Bible Project
The book of Judges tells the stories six judges, and the corruption and struggles with a lawless people. It ends with the worrying verse: "In those days Israel had no king, and everyone did what was right in their own eyes" Judges 17:6

Tentpegs...Just a reminder, if you're not that up to speed on your Judges readings, that part of Deborah's story is the unconventional death of Sisera, when Jael comes up with an alternative use for a tent peg... Just a FYI if you're letting your kids read on! Deborah even sings a song about it in Judges 5 :)

Samson (Judges 13-16)
|
Samson is a legendary Israelite warrior and judge, described in the Old Testament Book of Judges (Chapters 13–16).
Blessed with superhuman strength from God, he used his power to fight the Philistines, though his story is marked by personal flaws, tragic choices, and ultimate redemption. Before he was born, an angel told his parents that Samson would be a Nazirite, meaning he could not drink alcohol, touch dead bodies, or cut his hair. In return, God granted him supernatural physical strength. |
