Infinite, intimate God;
this night you kneel before your friends and wash our feet. Bound together in your love, trembling, we drink your cup and watch. Hear this prayer for your love’s sake. Amen. |
Maundy Thursday |
In Holy Week, Maundy Thursday is the day that we remember Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, and sharing the Last Supper with them. "Maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum, or commandment, reflecting Jesus' words "I give you a new commandment... Love one another..."
A Chrism service may also be held in dioceses this week, where priests, deacons and the church renew their commitment to Jesus for the year ahead - and this may include foot washing too. |
Love one another (John 13:1-17, 31b-35)
In this gospel reading, Jesus washes his disciples feet, and reminds them of their greatest call - "Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."

Gospel Conversations 2025: Coming soon.
Gospel Conversations 2022: This week we are given just a handful of verses from John's Gospel to ponder, yet the themes within them of Glory and Love could keep us thinking for the rest of our lives. Watch here. Love One Another
The name “Maundy” Thursday comes from the Latin word for “command,” and Maundy Thursday refers to Jesus’ command to the disciples to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34). Jesus himself goes on to model this commandment through 3 significant details/actions: Read more here. (Deeper Kid Min) |

Art in Holy WeekIf you want to mark Lent in a simple rich way, how about creating a space where your kids can spend some time with Jesus-related art. Try these questions or make up your own. Think about offering resources for kids to make art too.
